STOTFOLD BOOK
SECOND SUCCESSIVE COUNTY CUP FINAL
Bedford Town Colts 1 Stotfold 2
Stotfold F.C. academy continues to grow in stature, with their second successive
Beds County Cup final. Following on from last season's U16 successful County
Cup campaign, this season's u15 Academy side have booked their place in the
U15 final with an impressive win over Bedford Town Colts.
Bedford Town Colts are one of the top teams in the Chiltern league and so Stotfold
knew they had their work cut out. In less than perfect conditions, but on a
perfect playing surface, the football was going to have to be first class. The
result was just what the lads needed as a boost, as they have found it tough
going in their league this season. After five minutes the ever improving James
Macey raced through and planted the ball straight in the bottom right hand corner,
assisted by some good work from Jordan Cleghorn. The game was tight for seventy
minutes, until Jordan Klugman raced in on a fifty / fifty with the keeper. Klugman
was very brave in his challenge with the rebound coming out to Luke Hennesey
who calmly lobbed it straight over the keepers head to take the boys 0-2 up
and one step closer to the final. The last ten minutes was a bit frantic with
Bedford pushing players up to see if they could salvage extra time, until Phil
Smeaton went through on goal to wrap things up he was brought down in the box
only to get up and see his penalty well saved. Bedford did pull one back with
five minutes to go, but all the players gritted there teeth and held on to their
place in the final. Some very good performances, but the man of the match was
Lewis Sinclair at centre back with what was his best showing of the season.
Congratulations to all the players, staff and supporters, you deserve a great
day out for all your hard work. The final will be played on 13th of April at
a venue to be announced. Despite our success, we are still trying to develop
players in all positions. For details on trial dates, please contact Team Manager
Andrew Klugman 07740 055010.

STOTFOLD 3 DUNSTABLE TOWN 2
This match had to be moved to Hitchin Road and the boys knew it was going
to be a tricky encounter against a team that has yet to lose this season. Having
quickly to adapt to a team that loved route one football. This seemed to pay
off with Dunstable just edging the first half with a few half chances. After
20 minutes news came through that Q.P.R. had drawn Chelsea in the F.A. Cup and
this spurred on the Stotfold centre forward Jordan Klugman to swivel on a sixpence
and plant the ball straight in the corner of the onion bag to make it 1-0 .More
pressure from Dunstable was not enough to take them in level at half time.
The lads knew they could do better in the second half down hill with the wind
behind them, but this was not to be with Dunstable coming out of the traps more
hungry than us. Some slack defending let in their centre forward to head down
with the ball adjudged to have crossed the line by the linesman. Ten minutes
remaining skipper Jordan Cleghorn rallied the troops, got stuck in and played
the football we should be playing only to see Dunstable go 1-2 up. That was
it, did we want to reach the quarter finals of this cup or not? Then an excellent
move through midfield involving Wiseman, Ameis and Veness was good enough to
let Klugman go on goal with the keeper to beat, he pulled off a great save only
to see Klugman slot the rebound away with ease. Two minutes left on the clock
and extra time looked certain, but its a funny old game this football, big boot
out of defence, Legate controlled it, laid it off to Cruz who then slotted it
into man of the match Hennesey to wrap up the victory and take us to the quarter
finals. A quick note from the lads to James Macey who unfortunately broke his
ankle in midweek and will be a great loss, so get well soon James

Stotfold 2 Witham Town 1
This was Stotfold's opening match in the President's Cup. The first half
saw some quality football played by Stotfold, with Jordan Cleghorn breaking
up any attack in midfield, spraying the ball at will to James Macey, Carl Cruz
and forwards Jordan Klugman, Rob Howard and Nicky Albone. The defence of Maxi
Vennes, George Reeney, Lewis Sinclair and Clog had very little to do in this
half as Stotfold completely dominated with the ball on the floor, great passing
and good attacking football. The break came with Macey breaking from midfield
and giving the ball to Klugman who split the defence with a through ball back
to Macey to blast the ball from 10 yards.
In the second half the Stotfold lads went to sleep as Witham came at them with
all guns blazing. After about 15 mins. a thunderbolt of a shot from about 25
yards hit the back of the Stotfold net. The boys were now in a cup game, end
to end stuff. Just as we all thought a draw was on the cards the Stotfold lads
had one last fling, As the ball came back into the Witham area, their defender
had a moment of madness and handled. Up steps Goalkeeper and fast becoming an
u15 legend, Jordan Richardson, breaking the back of the net. Another very entertaining
game with the woodwork hit no fewer than seven times and both keepers making
first class saves. Jack Legate, Ben Amies, Ollie Sage, Luke Hennessey and Dan
Wiseman all came on and contributed to this very good team performance.
Stotfold 1 East Thurrock United 1 (EJA 14/10/07)
This new team are beginning to bond and grow in confidence with every minute
they play, they were entertaining league leaders, East Thurrock Utd at the Roker
Park. We knew this game was going to be tight and it was a credit to the high
standard of football both sides played, a privilege to watch The new Stotfold
Academy perform. Jordan Richardson is without a doubt one of the best keepers
we have seen at this age group keeping Thurrock at bay for 60 minutes, not many
chances for either team with Nicky Albone working hard alongside his
strike partners Jordan Klugman and Rob Howard all of them going close. Work,
work, work was the cry from academy manager Andy Klugman and he wasn't disappointed
as Clog, Maxi Vennes, Lewis Sinclair and George Renney giving it their all at
the back, Jordan Cleghorn running the midfield with Luke Hennesey, Jack Legate
and Carl Cruz.
Ten minutes into the second half Thurrock broke away in numbers, a powerful
shot could only be parried away with the rebound being slotted into the left
hand corner. Thurrock may have thought the job was done but were to be put under
constant pressure for the last 20 mins. This was down to a tactical move to
gamble and go for broke, looks good when it pays off. Luckily today it paid
off when Klugman slipped in behind the two centre backs to hammer Stotfold back
level. All in all a fair result from two excellent sets of players.
Ben Ammies, Ollie Sage and Dan Wiseman all came on and contributed to this hard
earned point
Well done to everyone of you.
