UNDER
16 TEAM 2009-10
The
squad started playing mini-soccer at Under 8 level in the season 2001/02. However,
it soon became clear that whilst the enthusiasm was excellent, the skill and fitness
level of the boys was below that of other teams. In addition a lack of positional
awareness compounded the problem and the team were not competitive at all. Despite
all that, fun was emphasised and the boys always seemed to be enjoying themselves.
Over the following months, the squad steadily improved and this was reflected
in game results. The following season (2002/03) the boys worked very hard at training,
developed their individual and team skills and gelled together as units - all
in an atmosphere of great fun. The statistics speak for themselves:
2001/02
Drew five games and won one game.
2002/03 Drew thirteen games, won fifteen
with three times as many goals scored.
The squads' performance continued to
improve and they achieved excellent results at Under 10 level.
2003/04 Drew
Six games and won Thirty One (31).
2004/05 was the teams first season at 11
a side football and they drew four games and won nine, finishing 7th in Division
2.
Managed by Ray Mait, with coaching assistance from Gary Brown the team,
having finished in 5th place in Division 3 last season, are playing their fifith
season at 11-a-side in Division 2.
