GRAND
DRAW FUN

As the lottery year ended, the club laid on a 5-a-side
tournament for the local youth. This was relatively well attended with around
85 youngsters taking part. There was a barbeque a quiz and a raffle leading
up to the "big draw" for lottery details please go to the lottery
page.
MORE
REP' TEAM SUCCESS
Stotfold's star U13 goalkeeper, Josh Mason
has been selected to represent the Royston Crow Youth Football League against
Peterborough on 4th of February. Josh becomes the fourth Stotfold player this
year to be hounoured with league rep selection. A previous winner of the Stotfold
Safe Hands award, Josh is currently training with Arsenal and regularly turns
in great performances for us.
KIRBY
DOUBLE BRACE
Andrew
Kirby's (left) U16 team have had an exceptional month and have won their
manager the coveted Manager of the Month award for February, his fourth time
this season. Their wins included a 7-0 demolition of Bedwell Rangers and an
away mauling 1-8 over Weston. He rounded off with a hard fought 2-1 win over
in form Letchworth Whites.
Andy Bainbridge's U14 side again earned him the runner up badge with
two wins out of two and +10 goals difference.
GREEN
HITS SAWBO'S FOR 7
Luke
Green may well have established a club record this week with an amazing
seven goals against Sawbridgeworth. Certainly in recent years I can't remember
any individual tally of 7, please let me know if I'm wrong. Brilliant performance
by the whole team reaching double figures against a side that have always done
quite well against us before. Well done Luke!

STOTFOLD
TRIO CALLED AGAIN
Under 16s Sam Chung, Rob Syme and Lewis Klugman have
all been recalled in an unchanged Royston Crow Rep Squad to face Chelmsford
away this Sunday. As a result, the U16 Match between Hormead Hares and Stotfold
has been postponed.

SEMI SADNESS FOR 14S &
16S
Despite a valiant effort, Stotfold's U14s were beaten by Buntingford
by 3-2 in their league cup quarter final. Meanwhile, the U16s crashed to an
0-8 home defeat by championship favourites Hitchin Town.
MERGER GETS GREEN LIGHT
The
members and officers of Stotfold Junior Football Club voted unanimously at this
year's AGM for a full merger with Stotfold Football Club. There will be an immediate
and total merger of fund raising activities to be decided at an EGM of the Stotfold
Supporters Club to be held in the clubhouse at 8pm on Thursday 20th July 2006.
There will then commence a process of merger with the senior club that will
take approximately 12 months to finalise and will need to be finally ratified
at the SJFC AGM in 2007. There are a number of benifts to merging and the committee's
view is that these far outweigh any minor disadvantages. For more information
on the merger plan, email
us.
The Members and committee of Stotfold Football Club have also voted unanimously
in favour of the merger.

The
traditional Easter tournament for the Alway Cup took place at Roker Park on
Sunday between Stotfold and EBOH from Dordrecht, Holland. This was the 32nd
annual challenge between the clubs and as always the EBOH teams were packed
with talented and gifted youngsters. The cup is decided on the aggregate score
from two matches. Firstly, Stotfold's U13 & U14 squads were mixed to face
EBOH C squad Then a team mostly of Stotfold under 15s with two under 16s and
3 under 17s faced EBOH B squad of similar age.
The teams lined up in glorious sunshine and an official party consisting of
Cllr Brian Saunders, Chairman of Stotfold Town Council, Jacky Always, Life member
of Stotfold Junior FC and Aad Janssen, Youth Board Chairman at EBOH greeted
the players before the anthems of the two nations were played. The U14 match
started and it took no time at all to see that we were up against a highly accomplished
team. EBOH took the lead after 10 minutes and then stretched it to two and then
three very quickly. The young Rokermen started to dig in and defended well for
long periods. Although Stotfold attacks were few, when a free kick was awarded
25 yards out, Lewis Page stepped up to score the goal of the match driving the
ball in off the underside of the crossbar. However, the celebrations were short
lived when EBOH scored a minute later to restore their three goals advantage.
Second half started with Stotfold playing much more positively and Torrie Albon's
long run was finished with aplomb to bring Stotfold back into contention. However
the class of the Dutch was too much and as the game wore on EBOH added a further
three goals to end the game 2-7 winners.
We interrupted proceeding there to play an adult match that ended 1-1.
Then the U16 v B Squad Match. This was an entirely different story as the Stotfold
boys took an early and strong grip on the game. Defending resolutely and making
good incisive runs against the Dutch defence, Stotfold always looked most likely
to score but it was EBOH that drew first blood.. However, Dave Coles opened
the scoring for Stotfold on 13 minutes after good support play in midfield and
three minutes later Joe Philbin squared the ball for U15 striker Josh Butina
to add a second. EBOH were reeling ending the half 2-1 down. Stotfold started
brighter in the second half and 5 minutes in saw Butina score his second and
Stotfold's third and when a scramed attack rebounded to Dan Burley his first
time shot rattled in from 25 yards to give Stotfold an unbelievable 4-1 lead
and suddenly it looked like the cup could be won. However, Stotfold were not
going to get it all their own way as EBOH pulled one back before Philbin's great
left footed shot squeezed in near post for 5-2. A controversial penalty award
to EBOH ended the match at 5-3 and so EBOH retained the cup with a 7-10 aggregate.
This was a magnificent performance by the younger lads in very difficult circumstances
and whilst we knew our under 16 squad was very strong, they performed even better
than we had expected.
The "Stan the Man Award" for skill and sportsmanship saw Joshua Butina,
Jake Major and Rob Syme all narrowly edged out by under 14 Ben Amos, whom the
visiting Dutch coaches agreed was the outstanding player of the tournament.
This was a great international event and the club wishes to thank everyone that
assisted or supported us in any way, particularly our very generous sponsors,

and Blackmore Cutters. Thanks also go to Jo Blacklaws and her dedicated volunteers
for a brilliantly organised weekend!

ELVIS LIVES - IN STOTFOLD
Well
actually, he lives in St. Albans but performed at Stotfold Memorial Hall on
Saturday 25th of February. The event, organised by Stotfold Junior Football
Club was Elvis Shmelvis's third and most successful appearance at a JFC fund
raising social event. Tickets were sold out weeks in advance and despite the
cold of the evening, the queue at the doors started forming fully 45 minutes
ahead of the published opening time.
Last year's show was brilliant and was the talk of the town for weeks afterwards.
This year, singer Martyn Dias from St. Albans opened the show as Frank Sinatra
before moving on to a highly convincing Tom Jones. He then gave us two full
sets as the King of rock and roll, Elvis. Right from the start, he had the entire
audience rocking along and by the end the fervour for "more" was deafening.
This was a great show and a thoroughly enjoyable
night
with a superb buffet included that was "fit for The King".
Everyone at the club would like to thank all that supported us and we would
particularly like to thank Mo Clarkson and Sally Hickin for their efforts behind
the bar and of course the main organisers, Jo Blacklaws, Sandra Burley, Dawn
Kirby, Vivienne Gilchrist, Alison Syme, Andrea Bainbridge and anyone else that
helped in any way on the day and with your generous donations to the event.
Roll on 2007!
Sincere thanks to Martyn Dias (Elvis
Shmelvis) for a brilliant Show!
PRESENTATION NIGHT 2005

EBOH
2005 - REPORT

The annual Alway Trophy match between EBOH B and C Squads against Stotfold Juniors Under 16s and Under 14s ended with both EBOH squads recording 3 - 1 victories winning the cup with an aggregate score of 6 -2. The under 14 side took an early lead when Josh Butina rounded the big EBOH defenders and squared a ball for Tom Waldwyn to score his first goal for the team. EBOH drew level just before the interval then took an early lead in the second half. The killer third goal being scored in the final minute. Stotfold's brave adults then took on the EBOH coaches and parents, losing 2-0, less said the better. The Under 16 game was also a tight match with EBOH scoring two early goals to lead 2-0 after only 18 minutes. But Stotfold battled back bravely and got into the match. The second half was very even and Stotfold pulled it back to 2-1 when Dan Burley won the ball in his own half and made a diagonal run to put Joe Baker through to beat the very confident EBOH keeper. However, EBOH soon restored their cushion and the match ended 3-1. The Stotfold Managers chose Milan Bax as the man of the tournament and Steve Young presented him with the "Stan the Man" trophy making Milan one of the only players (if not the only player) to have won Stan Richardson's trophy twice. Jo Blacklaws presented the Alway Trophy to the victorious captains.
On behalf of everyone connected with the club I would like to thank all the players for their contribution to a highly enjoyable weekend and commend them all for their behaviour and attitude throughout. You are a credit to the club and to your families. I would also like to thank Sandra Burley, Jo Blacklaws and Margaret Richardson for all their hard work in arranging the trip and our managers, John Hyde and Steve Young and Andrew Kirby and James Bacon for taking care of the football side of the weekend. Lastly, to everyone that was there, thanks for the great company.
