THE HISTORY OF:-
Stotfold Junior Football Club
was founded in 1976 with a single team entered in the Royston and District Youth Football League. The "Old Gold and Black" colours were "borrowed" from the already existing Stotfold Football Club and in the early days, matches were played at quiet times on the main pitch at Roker Park, Stotfold. Since that time the club has grown to our present strength of 14 teams from age 8 right through to Under 18. On formation of the club a constitution was drawn up which allowed only two players per team to be drawn from outside of Stotfold. This rule was abolished in 2002. The advantage of the policy was that a close knit communal fellowship was engineered in the teams, and the disadvantage being that few teams over the years have been able to compete effectively at their league and cup level. Nevertheless, honours have been won - notably by George Howell's Under 12 team from 1978/79 who won the league and cup double. Other winners include the Under 14 team of 1984/85 who were league cup winners, the Under 18 team of 1988/89 were league winners and more recently the Under 15 team of 1998/99 were also league winners. Three other teams have reached cup finals only to be thwarted at the final hurdle. In 2000 - 2001 Season Stotfold Juniors had their most successful season with no less than 4 teams winning their league titles. Our only notable production is Matthew Oakley who played for Stotfold Junior Football Club in the nineties and now plays at Premiership level with Southampton F.C. winning a runners up medal in the 2003 F.A. Cup Final.
We are proud of our discipline record which is one of the best of the many youth football clubs affiliated to Bedfordshire FA. Several times the club has been awarded maximum points under the Beds FA annual discipline award scheme. Since our formation, we have associated closely with Stotfold Football Club and have provided no less than a dozen committee members to the senior club over the years as well as providing a number of regular players into the main club's teams. Stotfold Football Club has in return provided regular use of the pitch at Roker Park for the Under 18 Youth Team as well as coaching and hospitality facilities for junior teams and their visitors. Our recent administrative merger with the senior club has presented us with exit routes for our players to mid week 18s, reserve and first team adult football. In 1977 Stotfold Football Club were able to hand over to us an established liaison with the Dutch Club, EBOH of Dordrecht, which has since resulted in an annual Easter tournament between the sides at Under 14 and 16 level. Every other season the Junior teams travel to Holland to take part in a well organised competition for the 'Wally Griffin' Trophy, and in alternative seasons the Dutch club visit Stotfold to take part in the same. This has resulted over the years in many long term friendships between the boys and between the officers of both clubs. One of the Dutch players taking part in the liaison visits, Juul Ellermann, went on to gain a place in the Dutch World Club Squad of 1990. In 2002 the club agreed an administrative merger with Stotfold Football Club but remains financially autonomous with our own F.A. affiliation number. Planning applications are in place for Stotfold to have a new sports facility that will in part accommodate the needs of the Junior Football Club. The latest chapter in the club's history will shape the future of football in Stotfold for many years to come. On 22nd August 2003, Stotfold Junior Football Club was awarded the F.A. Charter Standard, Development Club Status making them the first in Mid Bedfordshire and only the third club in the county to achieve this significant award. In 2004, Stotfold achieved an award from the Football Association as the best Development Club in the East of England.

The club is now a totally self funding voluntary organisation. Club assets are managed and directed each season by the Management Committee. It is the club members who are actually responsible for the assets and any liabilities that may arise.
